Bluetooth Profiles

I use USB Bluetooth dongle with IVT Corp. BlueSoleil software for transferring data from computer to my W800, through Bluetooth. IVT's main menu contains a lot of options at the top as seen in the screenshots below.
There were thirteen Bluetooth services as show. These services are profiles offered by the Bluetooth device. Each service fulfils its specialized task. Special Interest Group (SIG) defines these profiles. Given below is a brief description of each service:
1. Personal Area Networking (PAN) Service
This service allows creation of a wireless personal network through Bluetooth. The profile uses Bluetooth Network Encapsulation Protocol for transferring data between nodes.
2. Dial-up Networking Service
This profile is used to connect your computer to the internet by dialing through you mobile phone modem wirelessly.
3. Serial Port Service
SPP or Serial Port Profile uses the RFCOMM protocol. This profile emulates the conventional RS232 based serial communication, through a wireless connection.
4. LAN Access Service
As the name suggests the profile provides access to the local area network.
5. File Transfer Service
This Bluetooth service is based on GOEP protocol and provides access to directories of the connected device. This service enables a user to perform operations like copy, paste and delete file(s) or folder(s).
6. Information Synchronization Service
This profile allows you to synchronize you mobile device. It is also known as IrMC Synchronization as it was also available in Infra Red devices. The IR version of service is adopted to meet the Bluetooth specifications.
7. Object Push Service
OPS or Object push service is used for sending special objects like appointment details or virtual business cards. The service is only started by the sender; receiver just receives the incoming data.
8. Printer Service
As the title suggests the services provides a wireless connection to a printer. For success of this service the printer must have an Bluetooth interface.
9. Human Interface Device Service
HID service enables devices like keyboards, joysticks and mice to be connected to a computing device. Sony PlayStation 3 has controllers that can be connected through this profile. Certain mobile phones like K750, W800, and W810i also allow controlling a PC wirelessly through this service.
10. FAX Service
This service allows you to access the FAX software installed on your PC wirelessly, through the Bluetooth.
11. Basic Imaging Service
BIS is a collection of various smaller services that help in sending and receiving images. The service also helps in resizing of images to meet the receiver's format. The services offered by BIS include:-- Remote Display: Send pictures to a screen having Bluetooth.
- Remote Camera: Wireless use a digital camera
- Image Push: Send images
- Image Pull: Receive images
- Automatic Archive: Automatically synchronies new items
- Advanced Image Printing: Print images through you mobile phone without even using a PC
12. AV Service
This profile allows you to connect your Hi-fi or TV to your cell phone, through a Bluetooth connection.
13. Headset Service
This service connects Bluetooth Headsets to your PC wirelessly.
